little lesson?

Wednesday, December 12, 2012

The kids have become increasingly picky about what they’ll eat for dinner. It’s really getting ridiculous and frustrating. I’ve never been a fan of making separate meals for picky eaters. They’re served what’s for dinner and they’ll eat it or not. Then later if they’re hungry they can eat a healthy snack if one’s available and if there’s not…too bad.

So for the past month with Daniel working nights (at his new job) I have been the dinner queen. It’s been challenging but pretty cool and I’ve kept up most every night. We’ve had to fall back on pizza or burgers a couple times, but for the most part we’ve been having home-cooked meals.

Last night we had pork fried rice and it was delicious. Julian cried, Layla ate only a little, and Isaac didn’t eat (he rarely does). Julian begged me to make him something else but I refused, telling him if he was SO SO SO SO HUNGRY he would eat the food in front of him. Eventually he asked if he could have a PBJ. Well I knew that if the other two saw him eating a PBJ, they’d want one too. So I told him sure, he could have one, but he had to make it himself. And if/when Layla and Isaac saw and wanted their own, he had to make theirs too. He could not BELIEVE how mean I was being. And sure enough, they both wanted one and I told them to ask Julian for one. (haha… ) Julian sniveled and pouted while he made their sandwiches and when he put the plates at their spots on the table, Layla said “I don’t want that! The bread is too thick!” (because I’ve been making bread lately and my cutting skills aren’t precise.)

And Julian looked at her with shock and disgust and said “I MADE IT FOR YOU AND NOW YOU’RE NOT GOING TO EAT IT???”
